So we took some time apart, but started hanging out again. Until my feelings came back, then we would take time apart. This happens about 6 times, each time we keep getting closer, until...well now we're so close we're each others best friend. Each time we stop talking though, both of us tell each other "this is it, we can't keep seeing each other", but she'll cry, or I'll get upset, and soon we'll be seeing each other again. I thought I could deal with just being her friend, but I can't. We call each other several times a day, and hang out twice a week, usually doing something like a nice restuarant, watching a meteor shower, talking a walk on the beach...something romantic. And now, it's like I can't deal with it anymore. A part of me, just wants to make her happy, and be her friend; but the other part realizes that this is pretty hopeless, she won't ever fall for me. I did some reading, and when the first commercial jet airline (de Havilland Comet) flew it had a a max speed of about 800km/h in 1950.
767s had a max speed of about 850km/h in 1980
787s have a max speed of about 900km/h right now.

Do you think that 10 years from now commercial jet airlines will just increase speed by about 50km/h more or will there be a big jump?

Would ICBM's be the best Way to Address Iran's Nuclear Issues?

They can be loaded with fairly heavy bunker busters, up to about 6000 pounds. They arrive at about Mach 4 coming straight down so the ground based anti-air defenses are useless against ICBM's.

We have far more than we need. Testing our semi-ballistic navigation systems over a distance of about 12,000 miles is always a good thing, as long as the Russians and Chinese have been properly notified and have direct access to launch point telemetry, so they can see that nothing is headed at them.

No matter who hits Iran's nuclear sites, the USA will get 100% of the blame. The issue here is whether it's better to send B-2's and risk their crews, or if it's better to send ICBM's and risk no American lives.

There is no issue of stirring up or inflaming the Moslem world. That's been more or less a fact of life for the past 25 years at least, so it's hard to imagine it being more inflamed or more stirred up. It's like standing in the middle of a raging wildfire and talking about a match one is holding in one's hand. The flame from the match is not a true threat if the wildfire is already burning for miles in every direction.

While we're at it we could take out the barracks of the Quds Force and the Revolutionary Guards and the main anti-aircraft radars and missile sites. It really makes no difference to USA if Iran can defend itself or not since almost anyone who attacks it would run the place better than Sistani and Ahmadinejad from the perspective of US interests. This is a rogue nation, and a change of regimes there would be a good thing.

All told, the cost of using ICBM's would not necessarily be significantly higher than the cost of a B-2 mission with GPS guided JDAM's (which would take at least 4 planes, and 40 bombs including 8 bunker busters). The flight path of the ICBM's could be shortened by using sea-launched SLBM's if they could be rigged up with powerful enough conventional warheads within their throweight limitations. It's not clear that an SLBM could carry a 6000 pound payload.

Either way B-2's or ICBM/SLBM we need to coordinate with the Russians and Chinese in advance. They have to see that Iran is a threat to the entire world due to it's attempt to breakout into being a nuclear power which is fairly obvious at this point. Iran sits on about 20% of the known energy reserves of Planet Earth, so they need nuclear power like a fish needs a bicycle. This is a breakout like what Pakistan did, except it's not secret. Iran is telling the world to "Talk to the Hand" while they wave their hand in the face of our good faith diplomacy, and the U.N. and IAEA. We've played Ali Baba with them long enough. It's time to take action, or accept the likelihood of the nuclear explosion in NYC within the next two years.

There's no issue of "necessary" vs "unecessary" explosions. There's going to be some explosions, however they are characterized. The issue is should they happen in Iran now, or in NYC a bit later?

No, I never suggested using a nuclear weapon. I talked about conventional bunker busters, and raised the question if one could be launched from the sea (since they weigh 6000 pounds).

No, we don't need to go to war with Iran. We need to disable Iran's nuclear technology. This can be done without killing more than a few Iranians, and no civilians.

If ICBM's and SLBM's are not accurate enough, of course they must not be used. A bunker buster has to hit within a few feet to do any good. Off by even 1/10th of a mile and it's useless, obviously.

Tomohawks might be more accurate, but they would also be slower and more easily hit by the Iranian anti-air systems.

A two stage strike might be best using small conventional SLBM's to take out the radars and missile systems. Then four B-2's to drop the bunker busters using GPS guidance fins attached to JADMs. This would be the best combination of safety for our airmen, + efficacy for the surgical strike.

What to do about "friends"?

Basically wanting opinions here of what others would think and do if given friends like mine. I have a couple of girlfriends that I've known now for years. They were very tight, like sisters even and I was a new edition to their group. We get along great, that's not the problem. The problem is that they would always make me the lowest priority. Like in college for spring break-I hadn't been on vacation for a spring break my first 3 years of college and was really excited that I would finally be able to go on one my senior year and we girls decided we would go together. Then one of them decided she wanted to go to vegas and wasn't going to budge. I explained I couldn't afford that at all, and was hoping to go somewhere that everyone could afford, but no luck. They didn't want to change where they were going, so I got left behind. That was one of the bigger ones, but the list goes on and on with stuff like that. A recent one was now we're all living in different places really far apart from eachother, so we facebook message a lot because it's convenient. Of course I'm the one messaging all the time, and they get to me when they can. Maybe their really busy, I don't know. So the one decides to hop on a plane and go visit the other one for a week. Cost tons of money, and everything. lol meanwhile I couldn't for the life of me get her to message/call me back. Oh well. So now I get a message that one of them wants to get together when I come into town. So my question is (given what little background information you now have), should I even bother. We're kindda at the point where we'll figure out something and call eachother, but I know that if I don't do the calling that nothing will happen. Do any of you have friends like that where you have to do all the calling and work to keep the friendship going? What advice do you have? Should I call or or not bother?

I just want to get on a plane and leave my life is driving me nuts... any advice?

I want to buy a ticket back to CA and get out of here. I live in Ireland with my family i recently had to move back home because i lost my job and i'm going crazy. My dad is a total @sshole really. The only money i have left he is trying to take away when he has 18,000dollars back in CA i have 400euro thats it.
My grandma lives in CA and i can live with her and try get work and get back to college, in Ire i'm doing nothing now i'm so miserable. I can't even sleep i am depressed, I know in CA i will feel much better because the last time i was there i was so much healthier, physically and emotionally.

Dad wants me to wait until March and move with him to AZ but i dont want to because he will keep taking my money and treating and talking to me like i'm worthless.
Ithink i'd rather take the chance by myself in CA wiht no money and trying to get on than staying and moving with him when he treats me and my family like we are pathetic and we ruined his life.

It might be a safer choice to go with dad, but i don't think i care about that anymore.
I feel like total **** because of him and i'm miserable.

Any advice what i should do?
It's a big decision because if i go now to CA (where i really want to be) I have no money at all.

Should a high school freshman get to make the decisions?

A woman I know was recently divorced. She has two children. The older is 22 years old and now responsible for her own situation. The younger is 14 years old, a high school freshman, and very comfortable in her life, living situation, circle of friends, school, etc.

The woman was very happy in her marriage and in her life, until it came indisputably to light that her husband seven years earlier had repeatedly molested the then 15 year old older daughter. Some things are unforgivable, and of course this led to the divorce.

Times are tough, and the woman lost her job in a bad economy. She has spent a year on unemployment assistance, spending every dime she gets from her ex husband to pay the rent in a very expensive location so that the younger daughter does not have to be uprooted.

Due to a medical emergency, the woman got on a plane and one to take care of family in another state. Initially, we thought the visit would be 3 to 5 days long. Unfortunately, the medical emergency was more severe than we anticipated, and it now appears that her visit will be protracted, perhaps as long as the year. The better news is, the other state is good to her, and there she can work, and take good care of her daughter.

She would like to fly of the younger daughter to live with her, and complete her high school years in the location of her family in the other state. The younger daughter is, of course, highly resistant to this idea. We're definitely dealing with a kicking and screaming, and " I'll hate you forever" kind of situation should we force her to move.

To make this worse, the ex husband (the child molester), is demanding that the younger daughter stay where she is, threatening to use every resource and his disposal to make the move expensive, a legal nightmare, and in other ways in practical. It may appear that the father should have no rights, but unfortunately, in the state where this is happening, he does. Everything is dictated by the terms of the divorce agreement, which dictate that he shall have visitation rights, supervised outing rights, and approximately 15% custody, so long as that does not include spending an unsupervised night with his younger daughter. He is well and stably employed, a winner in other respects. If you did not know that one fact, he'd be a man you would trust, follow, and think very highly of.

In the woman's absence, he has spent every moment of his waking time with the younger daughter telling her things like: I love you, don't worry you're not going to have to move, I won't let her take you, it's all up to you, etc. The woman is at a disadvantage in this respect because she's 1000 miles away and has no direct input herself.

I have two questions:
1) do you believe that a 14 year old girl should have the right to make this choice herself, or do you believe that her preferences are secondary to the adult realities of the situation. In other words would it be okay for the woman to put her foot down file the paperwork and tell her daughter "No, we're moving. I'm your mother and you go where I go."

2) I should mention that the oldest daughter (the one who was molested) was not the blood daughter of her stepfather, but instead the product of the woman's former marriage. With that in mind, would it be safe for the younger daughter to let her father have custody of her, thus allowing her to remain in her current situation without moving. Do you think that because he is related to the younger daughter by blood that the risk is less?
